Top Spots to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day in Dublin

St. Patrick’s Day means clover-sporting crowds around the world will raise a pint (or two) that night. But in Dublin, the celebration is especially well-attended. Find tips on the best spots to go celebrate St. Patrick's Day in Dublin.

Dublin, Ireland on St Patrick's Day

St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland means crowds of clover-sporting celebrants around the world will raise a pint (or two) in honor of the patron saint of the Emerald Isle. For Dublin in particular, the holiday is especially well-attended, with entertainers, performers and revelers flooding into the city.

During the days leading up to St. Patrick’s Day, visitors can soak in Ireland’s culture at its most vibrant. No matter where you go in Dublin, you’re sure to see Irish step dancing, bagpipers and local singers. Looking for some suggestions? Here are a few fun spots to celebrate.

  • Funfairs: Classic carnival fairs pop up throughout the city, often with carousels, Ferris wheel, snacks and games.
  • Grafton Street: The traditional shopping area gets a jolt of Irish spirit as performers line the street.
  • Temple Bar neighborhood: It’s no surprise the pub-packed Temple Bar neighborhood is a lively spot during St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
  • **Irish Craft Beer Village:**A special outpost of the festival, this beer village is reminiscent of Oktoberfest. Stop by to sip local craft beers and sample artisan food.
  • Guinness Storehouse: While the Guinness Storehouse is a major tourist attraction year-round, it’s especially popular during the holiday weekend when it features live bands, food sampling and more. Interested in going? Buy your tickets ahead of time.
  • The Festival Céilí: This is an outdoor celebration of Irish music and dance that takes place on St. Stephen’s Green. All are welcome to come listen to live music and learn traditional Irish step dancing.

Each afternoon at 4:00, a green glow illuminates the city’s landmarks, like Trinity College and the Dublin Castle, during the “Greening of the City.” The festivities culminate on St. Patrick’s Day as a grand parade winds it way through downtown Dublin, including marching bands, floats, dancers and more. Locals and tourists alike flock to the pubs as the parade passes, finishing off the day by celebrating with new friends.
