Travel tips for Prague trips
There’s no bad time of year to travel to Prague, but here’s a list by season:
- Springtime brings beautiful weather and the perfect chance to visit Chateau Sychrov during an excursion on our Prague tours
- Summer is best for beer enthusiasts, when the annual Prague Beer Festival pops off in June
- Fall means magnificent tree colors, fewer crowds, and misty mornings
- Winter is the perfect time to experience the magic of Christmas markets and hot mulled wine
If you’re planning a trip to Prague, you’ll want to visit the majestic medieval architecture of Old Town Square, walk up Petrín Hill for a panoramic view of the cityscape, check out the giant baby statues in Kampa Park, and browse the Naplavka Farmers Market.
And whether or not you’re a Beatles fan, you’ll love the Lennon Wall. Dedicated to the late legend, it’s covered with Beatles-inspired art and lyrics about selfless acts and global causes. It’s a truly breathtaking sight.

If you’re planning a trip to Prague, you should make sure to see these sites:
- Prague Castle. This enormous 9th-century structure, once home to princes and kings of Bohemia, is now the president’s seat and an incredible place to explore on our Prague tours.
- St. Vitus Cathedral. This Roman Catholic cathedral is the largest church in the country and it’s well known for its Gothic architecture.
- Charles Bridge. Some recognize this bridge by the 30 statues of saints that line the edges. According to legend, the statues come alive at night and roam around the city.
- Prague Astronomical Clock. This colorful, intricate, 15th-century clock at the Old Town Hall has three main parts: the astronomical dial, an hourly “show” where the Apostles on the clock dance around, and a calendar dial that represents months.
As you research different Prague trips, you’ll learn that Prague’s weather is a bit unpredictable. Here’s what to bring so you can make the most of it:
- Lots of layers, so you’ll always feel comfortable
- A warm coat, hat, gloves, and scarf, even if you visit in spring and fall
- Rain gear—especially if you choose one of our summertime Prague tours
- A backpack to carry any warm layers, your umbrella, and, of course, souvenirs
Vepro knedlo zelo is one of the national dishes of the Czech Republic. It’s made with pork, sauerkraut, and dumplings. Locals roast all that savory goodness and serve it with a gravy made of onions and caraway seeds.
Goulash is another must-try food. This popular beef dish showcases a rich gravy with plenty of paprika—a very common spice in Eastern Europe. Travelers love to order a plate on our Prague tours.
Trdelnik is an all-time favorite for travelers on our Prague group tours. This doughy dessert is comparable to a chimney cake topped with cinnamon and sugar. We recommend that you also take the time to watch this delicious pastry as it’s roasted over an open flame. Around Christmastime, you’ll find many trdelnik stalls in the streets, so make sure to pick up a freshly-made treat (or three!).
Whenever people ask us what to know before visiting Prague, we recommend reviewing our Prague Travel Guide. This is full of tips on what to do, where to go, what to say, and even what to eat and drink.
